Goldie Blox – Will You Raise an Engineer?

Goldie Blox and The Spinning Machine

Goldie Blox and The Spinning Machine

Goldi Blox has got to be one of the most innovative new toys for Girls on the market. I plan on making sure that Santa knows this is a definite ‘must have’ under the Christmas tree this year.

I was doing my annual pre-holiday search for just the right kinds of toys for my daughter today, and came across this “Goldie Blox and the Spinning Machine” and thought to myself – “That looks cute!”

But of course looking cute isn’t enough anymore, you have to do your homework and read all the customer reviews to see what others who have already bought the product have to say about it.

After all, these people are just like you and me, parents, grandparents and aunts and uncles who want to make sure that the toy is not junk and that there is some assurance that we’re not tossing money down the drain.

This is what Goldie Blox and The Spinning Machine looks like. The write up says it builds spatial skills (the relation of objects in a space and how they work together), problem solving skills and helps build confidence in the face of these problems, as well as the incorporation of basic engineering skills.

It comes with:

  • The Goldie Blox and The Spinning Machine Storybook
  • Five Animal Figurines
  • The Pegboard Base
  • 5 Wheels, 10 Axles, 5 Blocks, 5 Washers, a Crank, Ribbon
  • 14 Design Templates

The Spinning Machine story is the first in a series of Goldi Blox books and play sets that introduces young girls to the basics of engineering and problem solving in a fun and ‘girl like’ manner.

I Love this because my daughter is a ‘tinker’ type kid, she loves to follow along behind her father, handing him tools, and when she is left to her own devices, she comes up with some amazing creations by taking her current toys and re-inventing them into something completely  ‘new’.

The set uses the story to capture the interest of the girls, and encourages them to solve the problems along with Goldi by building Rube Goldberg type machines with their pegboard and widgets. Will it ignite the ideas that will shape our future? Maybe.

Will it encourage your favorite little girl to use her brain for something more than just thinking ‘pink toys’ and the profiling of her young mind in a 1950’s manner? I hope so.

Goldi Blox and the Parade Float

The Goldi Blox and the Parade Float is the second release in the Goldi Blox story series, and looks to continue the adventure and the learning fun.

The Parade Float story introduces Goldie’s friend “Ruby”, the princess turned engineer and just like the Spinning Machine story the story lets your little girl follow along and build a variety of machines using the 34 piece building set and the design templates.

Fully compatible with the first set and will help further the Goldi Blox fun!

Looking for More Building Sets for Girls?

While Goldi Blox is innovative and designed especially for girls, there are other toys that focus on building with girls in mind.  Most are a girl colored version of well known ‘boy’ toys – such as Lego and Lincoln Logs, but there are a few that we feel are still worthy products for your little girl. Here are a few that get our seal of approval.
